Just wanted to give a quick shout out to the Spuni.
Although, technically this is not the first spoon I purchased for Bassil, it is our current go to. I came across this spoon on Grommet, which by the way is a great place to stumble across some pretty nifty gadgets. Ya, I said nifty!
Instead of me describing it, let me just take their description from the website:
When babies use their first spoon, more strained peas end up on their face or clothes than in their mouth. Spuni asked “why” and made an intuitive advance in weaning.
Specifically designed for a baby’s mouth, Spuni has a “tulip” shape with a soft, shallow eating area. A subtle lip at the back encourages babies to latch on—triggering their instinct to suck and swallow. And the soft spoon tip is gentle on their sensitive gums.
All I know is it works. I tried a couple of spoons and definitely more of his food was ending up on his bib than in his mouth. I immediately noticed he was actually swallowing better. In addition, Bassil was able to grip the spoon and feeding himself, to the best of his ability anyway. It’s small enough to fit in his mouth and to keep me from overfeeding him. ie. putting too much food on the spoon for his little mouth.
The only downfall, which is probably true of every spoon… is that my little pumpkin face with his four teeth likes to chew on the spoon. So it is already getting some pretty rough scratch marks on it. The good news. Spuni is made from a medical grade TPE. Free from BPA, BPS, Phthalates and PVC. Hypoallergenic and dishwasher safe.
Cost: $16 for 2
Not the cheapest but no the priciest either. Not sure when he will outgrow this spoon but for now it works!
